Leanne Clayton is a multifaceted artist of Samoan and European descent whose primary medium is printmaking. Her textile works combine cultural and personal memory which consider the roles of family and tradition in a cross-cultural society. Her installations represent a confluence of Polynesian and Western cultures, utilising techniques and materials from each. Drawing from diverse historical materials ranging from family photographs, found object making through to clothing and dress, she explores how cultural traditions shape who we are and where we are from.
Leanne was an Artist in Residence/Facilitator for Samoa Tula’i Samoa Arise Exhibition 2015-2016 at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery, Moreton Bay Community, Brisbane. Recent exhibitions include A fine possession: Jewellery and identity, Powerhouse Museum Sydney Australia, Samoa Tula’i Samoa Arise Exhibition Caboolture regional Art Gallery and will be in the up and coming Exhibition Art of the Pacific at the National Gallery of Victoria from April – July 2016.
